Lionsgate Play has outlined an aggressive growth roadmap, announcing a massive Hollywood content push for 2026 alongside the return of ‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2, slated for release in 2027.
At the core of this expansion is a strategic shift towards a more integrated, screen-agnostic model. The platform is moving into a theatrical-first approach, bringing 10–12 premium Hollywood films to Indian cinemas starting September 2026 before their exclusive streaming debut. The move is aimed at creating a seamless transition between theatrical and digital viewing experiences.
The upcoming theatrical slate includes high-profile titles featuring global stars such as Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Robert Pattinson, and Mark Wahlberg. Films like ‘Billion Dollar Spy’, ‘Empire City’, ‘Primetime’, ‘By Any Means’, and creature feature ‘Titan’ (Snake) are expected to roll out in cinemas before arriving on the platform, reflecting Lionsgate Play’s belief that large-scale storytelling deserves a theatrical canvas.
Over time, the platform has built a distinct identity by combining high-octane Hollywood entertainment with global and regional narratives. Its catalogue includes action-driven titles like ‘John Wick’ and ‘The Beekeeper’, alongside globally recognised shows such as ‘Normal People’ and ‘Paris Has Fallen’, as well as regional content like ‘Dakshina’ and ‘Racharikam’.
Looking ahead, the 2026 slate will lean heavily into star-led action and thrillers, with titles featuring actors like Jason Statham, Angelina Jolie, Zac Efron, and Matthew McConaughey. The expansion of existing franchises, including the ‘Has Fallen’ series, is also part of the strategy to build on established audience loyalty.
Rohit Jain, Founder of Lionsgate Play Asia, said the platform is entering its most ambitious phase yet, with over 100 premieres planned for 2026. He noted that the move into theatrical-first releases is a significant step in delivering cinematic-scale storytelling while maintaining a strong digital presence.
With a blend of theatrical releases, returning franchises, and a growing global catalogue, Lionsgate Play is positioning itself as a major destination for Hollywood content in India, aiming to bridge the gap between big-screen spectacle and premium streaming.
