India’s dairy brand Amul has celebrated Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming Hollywood debut with its signature witty topical, highlighting the actor’s portrayal of legendary sitar maestro Ravi Shankar in director Sam Mendes’ ambitious project ‘The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event’.
According to a UNI report, the film series is scheduled for a global theatrical release in April 2028 and is structured as four interconnected biopics, each narrated from the perspective of a different member of the iconic British band The Beatles.
Akhtar will portray Ravi Shankar, whose mentorship of guitarist George Harrison introduced Indian classical music to Western pop and played a significant role in shaping the Beatles’ sound during the late 1960s. The casting is expected to bring the celebrated musician’s legacy to an international audience through the large-scale cinematic project.
The ensemble cast includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. The film marks Akhtar’s first major international role, following his brief appearance as Waleed in the 2022 Marvel series ‘Ms. Marvel’.
Known for his versatility as an actor, director and singer, Akhtar made his acting debut in the 2008 musical drama Rock On!!, where he also lent his voice to popular tracks such as ‘Socha Hai,’ ‘Pichle Saat Dino Mein,’ and the title song. His musical contributions also include hit numbers like ‘Senorita,’ ‘Gallan Goodiyan,’ ‘Atrangi Yaari,’ and ‘Manzar Naya.’
Over the years, Akhtar has delivered critically acclaimed performances in films such as ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Toofan’, ‘Wazir’, ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, and ‘The Sky is Pink’. His most recent screen appearance was in 120 Bahadur.
With Amul’s topical celebrating the milestone and Akhtar stepping into the role of one of India’s most influential musicians, the project signals a significant moment for Indian representation in global cinema.
