Star Jalsha announced the launch of ‘Bigg Boss Bangla’, marking the arrival of the globally recognised reality format in the Bengali entertainment space. The show will be hosted by former India captain Sourav Ganguly and produced by EndemolShine India, bringing one of India’s most popular non-fiction franchises to Bengal.
The announcement was made today at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata during a special event hosted by Ganguly, where leading advertisers and well-known personalities gathered for the unveiling. According to a press release issued by the network, the evening featured a celebratory cricket match followed by a grand logo reveal, complemented by an immersive light and sound spectacle.
The event was designed to symbolically merge two of Bengal’s biggest passions — cricket and entertainment. The launch also marked the expansion of the Bigg Boss franchise, which is owned and produced by EndemolShine India and forms part of the global Big Brother format.
Speaking about the development, Sumanta Bose, who oversees Star Plus, Star Bharat and Star Utsav along with the East and West Cluster for JioStar, said the introduction of ‘Bigg Boss Bangla’ represents a key milestone for the network. He noted that the format has been thoughtfully adapted to reflect Bengal’s cultural identity while retaining the scale and intensity that define the Bigg Boss franchise.
Bose added that bringing Ganguly on board as the host gives the show both credibility and deep emotional resonance with audiences across the state. According to him, the channel aims to build a high-impact non-fiction franchise in the Bengali market with strong ambition and a long-term vision.
Ganguly, who will lead the show as host, said the Bigg Boss format is built on strong personalities, bold opinions and compelling conversations — qualities that align naturally with Bengal’s cultural character. He said the show will reflect the passion, emotion and individuality of the state while engaging viewers through conversations and interactions that unfold inside the Bigg Boss house.
Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO of Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, described the launch as an important step in expanding the franchise’s regional footprint. He said Bigg Boss has evolved into one of the country’s most enduring entertainment formats and continues to connect with audiences through its mix of personalities, conflicts and real human moments.
With the launch of ‘Bigg Boss Bangla’, the franchise will now be available in seven Indian languages, further strengthening its position as a nationwide entertainment phenomenon. Dhar added that the collaboration between Star Jalsha and Sourav Ganguly is expected to give the Bengali edition both scale and strong viewer engagement.
For Star Jalsha, which has long held a strong position in the Bengali general entertainment segment, the introduction of the Bigg Boss format is expected to add a major non-fiction property to its programming slate. The channel has historically delivered shows with deep reach across both urban and rural markets in the region.
With the arrival of ‘Bigg Boss Bangla’, the channel aims to bring a fresh wave of high-energy reality programming to Bengali audiences. Known for its drama, emotions and unpredictable moments, the Bigg Boss franchise is now set to enter Bengal with renewed momentum, potentially redefining the state’s non-fiction entertainment landscape.
