Warner Bros. Discovery has elevated Shazia Fazal to head of affiliate sales, South Asia, marking a significant milestone in a career that began with her watching the company’s content as a young girl. The move comes as Fazal completes nine years with the media major, underscoring both her steady rise within the organisation and the company’s evolving leadership landscape in the region.
In a LinkedIn post update reflecting on her promotion, Fazal described the moment as one that even a scriptwriter might struggle to improve upon. Raised by what she calls a “fiercely feminist” father who encouraged her to “be yourself ferociously”, she has gone on to head distribution in a segment historically dominated by men. Her journey, she indicated, has been shaped as much by personal conviction as by professional perseverance.
Fazal steps into the new role from her previous position as senior director, DTH, telecom and digital alliances. As head of affiliate sales, South Asia, she will now lead affiliate distribution across one of the company’s most dynamic and competitive markets. The mandate includes overseeing relationships across direct-to-home platforms, telecom operators and digital distribution partners — a space where traditional broadcasting continues to intersect rapidly with evolving digital ecosystems.
Her elevation also reflects a broader cultural shift within the organisation. Fazal noted that 80 per cent of the leadership team she works with are women — a striking statistic in an industry where representation at the top often remains uneven. She credited India leader Arjun Nohwar for fostering an environment where merit, ambition and authenticity are encouraged, and acknowledged the mentorship of Vijay Rajput as instrumental in her growth.
Fazal joined the Discovery business in 2017 as associate director, DTH, and steadily expanded her responsibilities through roles including director, DTH and telecom partnerships, and later senior director overseeing DTH, telecom and digital partnerships. Following the merger that created Warner Bros. Discovery, she continued to widen her remit across South Asia, aligning distribution strategies with the company’s broader integration plans.
Before Discovery, Fazal spent over six years at Sony Pictures Networks India, where she held multiple business development roles including deputy associate director and senior manager, business development. Earlier assignments at West Coast Group and Marketing Solutions Private Limited helped build the foundation for her expertise in partnerships and client relationships.
Leading affiliate sales in India requires navigating a market defined by scale, fragmentation and constant disruption. With traditional television platforms operating alongside telecom bundles and streaming integrations, the distribution landscape remains both complex and fast-evolving. For Fazal, however, that complexity appears to be part of the motivation.
Nine years into her journey with the company, she sums it up in three words: growth, gratitude and grit. If her trajectory mirrors a carefully crafted screenplay, this latest promotion signals a new chapter — one that positions her at the centre of distribution strategy in one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s most competitive regions.
