Discovery Channel marked World Unani Day on February 11 by premiering ‘Unani Ki Kahaani’, a new documentary narrated by actor Jim Sarbh that explores the philosophy, history and contemporary relevance of Unani medicine as a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
According to a press release from the media house, the documentary presents Unani medicine not merely as a traditional healing system but as a comprehensive philosophy centred on balance between the body, mind, spirit and environment. The film examines how the centuries-old practice continues to resonate in an era marked by rising chronic illnesses, lifestyle disorders and fragmented healthcare approaches.

The narrative also reflects on developments such as the COVID-19 pandemic, a period when public health discussions in India increasingly included traditional healing systems alongside modern medical practices and preventive care.
Sarbh’s narration provides a contemporary perspective, presenting complex concepts in an accessible manner while preserving the depth of the subject.
Speaking about the documentary, Abdul Majeed, Chairman and Managing Trustee of Hamdard Laboratories, said the film aims to explore healing as a broader idea that goes beyond symptoms to focus on balance, prevention and long-term wellbeing. He noted that the documentary invites audiences to revisit a medical tradition that has evolved over time while remaining rooted in nature and human understanding.
Sharing his experience, Sarbh described narrating the film as a learning journey, adding that he was struck by how the system of medicine .
