Two television channels Saam TV and Skyama Daily Post News have successfully acquired vacant MPEG-4 slots on DD Free Dish during the mid-year 92nd e-auction conducted by Prasar Bharati.
The auction took place on October 29, 2025, marking another step in expanding the free-to-air platform’s channel offerings for viewers across India.
According to an official update, broadcasters interested in participating were required to submit their applications along with the processing fee and mandatory documentation by October 27, 2025. The successful channels will occupy the allocated slots on a pro-rata basis from November 7, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
The channel placement for the newly acquired slots will be categorized under the designated genre and language-based buckets — R1, R2, R3, G1, and G2 — ensuring structured and diverse content availability for DD Free Dish audiences.
The e-auction was open to all private satellite TV channels holding valid licenses and downlinking permission from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). Additionally, foreign broadcasters were eligible to participate provided they obtained necessary MIB approvals and adhered to all Indian broadcasting regulations.
Prasar Bharati had earlier emphasized the importance of transparency and accuracy in the application process, stating that all broadcasters were required to submit “clear and unambiguous proof” of their channel’s genre and language classification. Any application found with inconsistent or unclear information was considered ineligible and subsequently rejected.
Detailed auction guidelines, including the specific bucket rates and procedural terms, are available on the official websites of Prasar Bharati and DD Free Dish.
This mid-year e-auction continues Prasar Bharati’s ongoing efforts to optimize DD Free Dish’s transponder capacity and ensure a rich mix of entertainment, news, and regional content for millions of households using India’s free direct-to-home service.
