Prime Video has officially greenlit the second season of ‘Young Sherlock’, with Hero Fiennes Tiffin returning in the lead role as a young Sherlock Holmes. The series, directed by Guy Ritchie, will see the filmmaker return to direct and executive produce, continuing the story of the iconic detective’s early years.
According to a press release, the renewal comes on the back of a strong global response to Season One, which is currently streaming in over 240 countries and territories. The show has been positioned as an action-packed, irreverent take on Sherlock Holmes’ origin story, blending mystery with character-driven storytelling.
Season One has delivered impressive viewership numbers, reaching 45 million viewers within its first 28 days. The series climbed to the number one spot in more than 95 countries, with a significant share of its audience coming from international markets, including the U.K., India, and Germany. The trailer alone generated 223 million views in its first week, setting a new benchmark as the most-watched series trailer within that time frame for the platform.
The story follows a young, defiant Sherlock Holmes as he encounters James Moriarty and becomes entangled in a high-stakes murder investigation. What begins as his first case quickly evolves into a globe-spanning conspiracy, ultimately shaping the man who would go on to become the legendary detective of Baker Street. Set against the backdrop of Victorian England and beyond, the series explores the early, rebellious phase of the iconic character.
The first season also featured a strong ensemble cast including Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth, adding depth to the narrative. The series was created for television by Matthew Parkhill, who also serves as showrunner, alongside a team of executive producers.
Speaking on the show’s success, Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, noted that the series has struck a chord with audiences worldwide by reimagining the early life of an iconic character in a fresh and engaging way.
With Guy Ritchie set to direct the opening episode of Season Two, expectations are high as the series prepares to expand its narrative arc and build on the foundation established in its debut season.
