JioStar has taken action against alleged cable piracy in Odisha after filing a complaint against a cable operator in Korei, Jajpur district.
Following the complaint, Odisha Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Copyright Act, 1957.
According to a JioStar press release ,after the FIR was registered, police conducted a raid at the accused operator’s premises and seized equipment allegedly used for the unauthorized distribution of JioStar TV channels.
The seized items included nine modulators, 20 DTH set top boxes, one optical node, and one mixer. The accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
The cable operator was allegedly retransmitting JioStar channels without authorization through a local cable network and using consumer DTH set-top boxes to access broadcast feeds, which are meant only for personal viewing.
JioStar said that after the enforcement action, the unauthorized retransmission of its channels has stopped in the area, and no further piracy cases have been detected during monitoring.
The action highlights the continued efforts by broadcasters and law enforcement agencies to control illegal cable operations and protect premium television content from piracy.
