Actor Aditya Rawal, known for gravitating towards layered and demanding roles, says stepping into the dark psychological world of Prime Video’s upcoming series ‘Daldal’ pushed him far beyond his comfort zone. In the crime thriller, Rawal essays the role of Sajid, a troubled man whose closeness to a series of violent incidents places him in a morally and emotionally complex space.
According to a Prime Video press release, Rawal admitted that he initially hesitated before committing to the project, given the intensity of the character and the unsettling tone of the narrative. He said the darkness and emotional weight of ‘Daldal’ made him question whether he was ready to take on such a demanding part at this stage of his career.
Recalling the moment that ultimately convinced him, Rawal said the story stayed with him long after director Amrit Raj Gupta narrated it. He described the role as one that genuinely scared him and forced him to confront uncomfortable realities around addiction, vulnerability and human fragility. “Opportunities like this don’t come often,” Rawal said, adding that while Sajid turned out to be the most difficult character he has played so far, it was also the most rewarding experience of his career. Trust in the script and the creative team, he noted, made the decision clearer with time.
Inspired by Vish Dhamija’s ‘Bhendi Bazaar’, ‘Daldal’ is directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni under the Abundantia Entertainment banner. The series stars Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role as the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police in Mumbai’s Crime Branch, with Aditya Rawal and Samara Tijori playing key characters.
Set against the gritty underbelly of the city, ‘Daldal’ promises a tense psychological exploration of crime and consequence. The series is scheduled to premiere on January 30 and will stream exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
