Vodafone Idea (Vi) has partnered with Meta to launch Silent Mobile Verification (SMV) capabilities across WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram for Vi subscribers in India. The initiative aims to deliver a faster, safer and more seamless authentication experience by enabling network-based verification directly through the telecom operator’s infrastructure.
The announcement marks a significant step in strengthening digital trust and security as India’s online ecosystem continues to expand. Through SMV, users can verify their mobile numbers without manually entering one-time passwords (OTPs), switching between applications, or waiting for verification messages.
The solution works by validating authentication requests directly through Vi’s telecom network when users access Meta platforms using the Vi mobile network. This enables a frictionless and password-less verification experience while enhancing security against phishing attempts and identity fraud.
Vi users can experience Silent Mobile Verification across several key touchpoints, including new account registrations, mobile number verification, login and re-login processes, account recovery, and security-related authentication checks. By reducing manual intervention, the technology is expected to simplify onboarding and improve overall user convenience.
As digital services witness rapid adoption across India, network-based authentication technologies are increasingly being viewed as important tools for improving trust and strengthening cybersecurity measures. Industry stakeholders and government-led initiatives have also been focusing on building safer digital ecosystems through advanced verification mechanisms.
Commenting on the partnership, Abhijit Kishore, CEO of Vodafone Idea Limited, said telecom networks are playing an increasingly critical role in enabling secure digital experiences. He noted that the collaboration with Meta allows Vi to enhance cyber safety, reduce fraud risks and deliver seamless authentication experiences to users across some of the country’s most widely used digital platforms.
Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head, Meta India, said network-based authentication represents an important advancement in making user verification simpler, more secure and frictionless. He added that Meta is pleased to collaborate with Vi to bring the capability to users of WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.
The launch also highlights the growing role of telecom network APIs in supporting trusted digital infrastructure. Vi said it plans to continue working with ecosystem partners, developers and digital platforms to expand authentication and trust-based solutions powered by telecom network capabilities.
Looking ahead, the company intends to extend such services to additional applications and use cases, including advanced fraud prevention systems, intelligent risk-based verification mechanisms and enhanced digital authentication solutions.
The partnership underscores the increasing convergence of telecom and digital platforms as both sectors work towards creating safer, faster and more reliable online experiences for millions of users across India.
