WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Meta, is introducing new safety tools for Android beta users to enhance their messaging experience.
The platform will display a new screen the first time beta users receive messages from unknown phone numbers.
The primary purpose of this safety tools screen is to inform users about actions they can take when receiving messages from unfamiliar contacts. It offers convenient options to block unknown contacts or report them to the moderation team.
Additionally, the screen provides valuable guidance on staying safe during chats, such as checking the profile name, profile photo, and country code of the phone number, IANS reported.
One notable privacy feature of this update is that when users receive messages from unknown phone numbers, the sender will not receive a read receipt until the user chooses to reply or add the contact to their address book. This empowers users with increased privacy and control over their interactions.
As of now, the new safety tools are available to select beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android updates. However, these features are expected to be gradually rolled out to a wider user base in the coming days.
WhatsApp has been actively introducing various features to improve user experience recently. Just earlier this week, the platform rolled out functionality on Android beta that enables users to create new groups while forwarding messages.
