WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Meta, has announced the expansion of its channels to several additional countries. The announcement was made on Twitter (now X).
The countries where WhatsApp Channels are being rolled out include Egypt, Chile, Malaysia, Morocco, Ukraine, Kenya and Peru. With this update, users in these countries can now discover, share, and follow channels that interest them.
WhatsApp Channels serve as a one-way broadcast tool for administrators to send various types of content, such as text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. The introduction of WhatsApp Channels took place last month, according to a IANS report.
Additionally, it was previously reported that the messaging platform was working on a message reaction feature for channels. To facilitate this, a new section called “Channel settings” is expected to be added.
Through this section, admins will have the ability to manage specific options for their channels, including controlling which reactions users can send.
Recently, WhatsApp also introduced two new privacy features for users, namely “Silence Unknown Callers” and “Privacy Checkup”. The Silence Unknown Callers feature aims to enhance privacy and control for users by automatically screening out spam, scams, and calls from unknown numbers.
These calls will not ring on users’ phones but will be visible in their Call list in case they turn out to be important.
