The Marathi drama ‘Tighee’ is set for its world digital premiere on ZEE5 on May 15, 2026, bringing an intimate story of fractured relationships, emotional silences, and unresolved family bonds to audiences worldwide. Directed by debutant Jeejivisha Kale and produced by Supri Advertising and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the film explores the complexities that often lie beneath seemingly ordinary family dynamics.
The announcement comes via a ZEE5 press release, which positions ‘Tighee’ as a deeply personal yet universally relatable narrative rooted in human emotion and lived experiences. The platform continues to focus on stories that reflect authenticity and emotional depth, particularly in regional cinema.
At the centre of the story is Swati Ranade-Karnik, played by Nehha Pendse Bayas, a 40-year-old woman navigating mounting personal and financial struggles in Mumbai. Her life takes a decisive turn when she learns that her estranged mother, Hemalata Ranade, portrayed by Bharati Achrekar, is nearing the end of her life. Swati returns to her childhood home in Pune, where she is forced to confront a past she had long tried to leave behind.
The homecoming leads to a tense reunion with her younger sister Sarika, played by Sonalee Kulkarni, who has been single-handedly caring for their ailing mother. What follows is a deeply layered emotional conflict marked by accusations, suppressed resentment, and unresolved pain. The already fragile dynamic between the three women is further shaken when their mother expresses a wish to spend her final days in hospice, away from them.
Set against a backdrop of memory-laden spaces and emotional distance, ‘Tighee’ explores how families cope with guilt, sacrifice, and the weight of unspoken truths. The film also features performances by Nipun Dharmadhikari, Jaimini Pathak, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Suvrat Joshi, Mrinmayee Godbole, and Sanjay Mone, adding depth and texture to the narrative.
Speaking about the film, Hema V.R., Chief Channel Officer – Zee Marathi and Business Head – ZEE5 Marathi, said the platform remains committed to stories that are rooted in real human experiences. She described ‘Tighee’ as an honest and thought-provoking exploration of familial relationships and expressed confidence that it would resonate widely with audiences.
Director Jeejivisha Kale called the film a deeply personal project, noting that it reflects the silences and emotional complexities that exist within families. She added that the film’s journey, from its theatrical run to its digital premiere, has been encouraging, and that the ZEE5 release will help it reach a broader audience.
For Nehha Pendse Bayas, the role of Swati stood out for its vulnerability and emotional depth, while Sonalee Kulkarni highlighted the layered portrayal of responsibility and suppressed emotions through her character Sarika. Both actors emphasised the film’s ability to connect with viewers who have experienced complex family relationships.
With its digital premiere, ‘Tighee’ is poised to reach a wider audience, offering a poignant look at the emotional realities that often remain unspoken within families.
