The Taylor mania continues on on-screen, courtesy the Swift-ies, after setting various records during on-ground events. The three and a half hour concert film, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’, garnered 4.6 million views and 16.2 million hours on Disney+ in its opening weekend.
The huge success in three days of its unveiling on the streaming platform — in India it streams on Disney+Hotstar — made it the No. 1 music film ever on Disney+. Swift fans took to Disney+ to watch 16.2 million hours of the blockbuster 3.5-hour concert film last weekend, The Walt Disney Company said in a media statement on March 19. A view is defined as total stream time divided by runtime.
Disney+ is the only place to watch the show in its entirety for the first time — complete with songs only seen before at live concerts. Swift fans were able to see the performances of new songs such as ‘Cardigan’ as well as four additional acoustic songs: ‘Maroon’, ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’, ‘You Are in Love’, and ‘I Can See You’.
From the 14-time Grammy-winning artist, ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ grossed a record-breaking nearly $262 million worldwide at the global box office and is another example of Disney+ being home to major events. ‘Elton John: Farewell from Dodger Stadium’, ‘Black Is King: A Film by Beyoncé’, and ‘The Beatles: Get Back’ are all currently streaming on Disney+. Not to mention, Swift’s own, folklore: the long pond studio sessions, Disney said.
To commemorate the premiere of the The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) film, Disney+ had a Swift takeover on the film’s debut day with the service’s homepage featuring sets of titles inspired by each of Swift’s eras.
