Hollywood heavyweights Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Bill Paterson and several other prominent actors have joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ series, further strengthening the ambitious adaptation led by Sophie Turner.
The project is being developed as a premium series based on the iconic ‘Tomb Raider’ video game franchise, which chronicles the globe-trotting adventures of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.
According to a PTI report, the series has Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for ‘Fleabag’, on board as writer-creator and co-showrunner, marking one of Amazon’s most high-profile scripted ventures in recent times. The show is expected to reimagine Lara Croft’s world for a new generation while staying rooted in the spirit of the long-running video game franchise that has enjoyed massive global popularity.
Sigourney Weaver will be seen essaying the role of Evelyn Wallis, described as a mysterious and powerful woman operating in elite circles, whose ambitions and influence add a new layer of intrigue to the story. Jason Isaacs and Bill Paterson are also set to play key roles, though details of their characters are being kept under wraps. The ensemble casting signals a strong emphasis on character-driven storytelling alongside high-stakes adventure.
Sophie Turner, who headlines the series as Lara Croft, steps into a role that has previously been portrayed on screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. The Amazon series is expected to chart a fresh narrative arc for the iconic heroine, blending action, exploration and emotional depth, with Waller-Bridge’s distinctive writing voice shaping the tone.
The ‘Tomb Raider’ franchise, which originated as a video game in the mid-1990s, has evolved into a multi-format global brand spanning games, films and now long-form television. With Amazon MGM Studios backing the series and an acclaimed creative team in place, the upcoming adaptation is positioned as a major tentpole in the studio’s slate, though a release timeline has not yet been announced.
