After a successful theatrical run earlier this year, the Marathi film ‘Rubaab’ is now gearing up for its digital premiere on ZEE5, aiming to reach a wider audience across geographies. The film, which blends romance, drama and emotion, brings forth a story rooted in relationships, pride and personal choices.
According to a ZEE5 press release, the digital release marks an important step in expanding the film’s reach beyond theatres, offering viewers an opportunity to engage with its narrative on a global platform. With the growing popularity of regional content on streaming services, ‘Rubaab’ is expected to resonate with audiences looking for culturally grounded and emotionally driven storytelling.
At the centre of the film is the journey of Suraj and Vaishali, two strong-willed individuals brought together by love but tested by circumstances and their own sense of identity. As their relationship unfolds, the story delves into how pride, ego and emotions shape human connections, at times strengthening them and at others creating conflict. The narrative captures the complexities of relationships while highlighting the importance of self-respect.
Featuring performances by Sambhaji Sasane, Sheetal Patil, Vishal Shirtode, Abhijeet Sakate and Simran Khedkar, the film received appreciation during its theatrical run for both its performances and storytelling. With its move to digital, the film is set to bring Marathi cinema to a broader, global audience.
Hema V. R., Chief Channel Officer – Zee Marathi and Business Head – Marathi ZEE5, described ‘Rubaab’ as a heartfelt exploration of relationships, reflecting the pride, love and emotions that define human experiences. She noted that the film’s culturally rooted narrative aligns with the authenticity associated with Marathi cinema and expressed confidence in its appeal to audiences worldwide.
Director Shekhar Bapu Rankhambe said the film is a story about love, self-respect and the choices people make when emotions and ego intersect. He added that the audience response in theatres has been encouraging and that the digital release will allow the film to connect with an even larger viewership.
Lead actors also shared their perspectives on the film, with Sambhaji Sasane highlighting the layered nature of his character Suraj, and Sheetal Patil emphasising the strength and independence of Vaishali. Both actors expressed enthusiasm about the film reaching global audiences through its digital premiere.
With its mix of romance, drama and relatable storytelling, ‘Rubaab’ is positioned as an engaging watch for viewers across age groups, further strengthening the growing footprint of regional cinema on streaming platforms.
