YRF Entertainment has appointed Saugata Mukherjee as its new Head of Content, strengthening its leadership as it expands its films and series slate for global audiences. He will report directly to Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films.
The announcement, shared via a Taran Adarsh’s Instagram post, marks a key move for YRF Entertainment as it builds on a growing portfolio that includes titles such as ‘The Romantics’, ‘The Railway Men’ and ‘Mandala Murders’. With Mukherjee coming on board, the studio is expected to further scale its content strategy across streaming platforms.
Welcoming him, Akshaye Widhani described Mukherjee as a creative thought leader who has consistently pushed the boundaries of audience engagement. He noted that at a time when streaming is reshaping both local and global entertainment landscapes, Mukherjee’s creative instincts and strategic clarity position him well to lead YRF Entertainment into its next phase of growth. Widhani added that the company remains committed to taking Indian stories to global audiences, while continuing to invest in distinctive local content and emerging talent.
Within the organisation, Yogendra Mogre will continue as Executive Producer on shows and head of production, working closely with Mukherjee and Widhani to develop the next slate of projects.
Mukherjee joins YRF Entertainment after a significant stint at SonyLIV, where he served as Head of Content and Executive Vice President. During his tenure, the platform established itself as a premium destination for original programming, delivering acclaimed titles such as ‘Scam 1992’, ‘Maharani’, ‘Rocket Boys’, ‘Gullak’ and ‘Freedom at Midnight’. The slate collectively earned more than 100 major industry awards, underlining the platform’s strong creative positioning.
His work has also received global recognition, with productions like ‘Aarya’ and ‘Rocket Boys’ securing nominations at the International Emmy Awards. Prior to SonyLIV, Mukherjee played a key role in leading the India market entry for HBO Max and was part of the founding leadership team that built Hotstar (now JioHotstar) into one of the world’s largest streaming platforms by subscriber base.
With experience spanning platform launches, digital transformation, content monetisation and building high-performance creative teams, Mukherjee’s appointment signals YRF Entertainment’s intent to sharpen its content vision and strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive streaming landscape.
