Reliance Jio is on the brink of securing essential approvals from the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) to launch its satellite-powered gigabit fibre services in the country.

These authorizations, crucial for deploying global satellite bandwidth capacity in India, are expected imminently after Jio’s comprehensive submissions to the regulatory body, The Economic Times reported.

The process involves multiple ministries and security clearances, making the IN-SPACe authorization complex. While IN-SPACe’s chairman, Pawan Goenka, refrained from commenting on specific companies, he confirmed a pipeline of pending authorizations, hinting at progress in various applications, including Jio’s venture.

Last year, Jio Platforms partnered with Luxembourg-based SES to establish a joint venture, marking their entry into satellite broadband connectivity. This move places them among prominent contenders like Eutelsat OneWeb, Elon Musk‘s Starlink, Amazon, and the Tatas, all vying for space in this burgeoning sector.
