The recently released blockbuster ‘Dhurandhar’ has been declared tax-free in Ladakh, giving a fresh boost to the film’s already strong box-office run. The announcement was made yesterday by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, who shared the update through his official X handle.
According to an IANS report, the Lieutenant Governor said the decision reflects Ladakh’s support for filmmakers and its growing ambition to position the Union Territory as a preferred destination for film shoots and tourism.
In his post, Gupta noted that ‘Dhurandhar’, which was shot extensively in the region, highlights Ladakh’s cinematic landscapes and reinforces the administration’s commitment to promoting the local film ecosystem. He also stated that the administration is working on a new film policy and will extend full support to film productions in Ladakh.
Meanwhile, ‘Dhurandhar’ continues to dominate the box office, emerging as one of the biggest commercial successes of recent times. The film traces the life of an Indian spy who infiltrates criminal and organised crime networks in Pakistan, presenting a fictionalised account of the nexus between the Pakistan underworld and the ISI, and how it allegedly leads to terror attacks in India. Its gripping narrative and scale have helped strengthen the Hindi film industry’s performance this year, marking a notable moment for the Indian spy-thriller genre.
Since its release on December 5, 2025, the film has shown rare consistency at the ticket windows. Domestically, ‘Dhurandhar’ crossed the Rs 600 crore mark in India within its third week and maintained its momentum through the Christmas and New Year period. On the global stage, it entered the Rs 1,000 crore club in just about three weeks, placing it among a select group of Indian films to achieve the milestone.
