Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari has endorsed Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks regarding the future of the Narendra Modi-led government, saying that the Congress leader does not make statements without basis.
Speaking during an exclusive episode of ‘Point Blank’, the flagship interview show of Live Times, Tiwari participated in a candid conversation with Deepak Chaurasia, Director News, Live Times. The discussion covered a range of political issues, including the stability of the NDA government, the proposed delimitation exercise, opposition politics in West Bengal and the BJP’s leadership model.
During the interview, Tiwari expressed confidence in Rahul Gandhi’s assessment that the current government may not complete its full term. Referring to Gandhi’s recent comments, he said, “Rahul Gandhi jhooth nahin bolte. Agar unhone kaha hai ki ek saal mein Modi Sarkar nahin rahegi, to sahi kaha hoga.” He further argued that there is growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling establishment across several parts of the country.
On the issue of delimitation, Tiwari questioned the political viability of any attempt by the Centre to bring back a Delimitation Bill. He maintained that several regional parties would strongly oppose such a move and specifically pointed to the DMK as a party unlikely to support the proposal. According to him, securing the required political backing for such legislation would be a significant challenge for the government.
The Congress veteran also spoke about the political situation in West Bengal and reflected on the relationship between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress. He suggested that the electoral landscape might have been different had both parties remained together. According to Tiwari, an alliance between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress could have strengthened Mamata Banerjee’s prospects. However, when asked about allegations that the TMC had weakened the Congress organisation in the state, he refrained from launching a direct attack, saying that Banerjee had recently suffered a political setback and he did not wish to criticise her harshly.
Targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party, Tiwari alleged that the party increasingly depends on leaders who originally belonged to rival political organisations. He claimed that the BJP lacks a sufficient pipeline of leaders developed entirely within its own ranks and cited leaders such as Himanta Biswa Sarma and Suvendu Adhikari while questioning the party’s internal leadership development process.
The interview was conducted in the direct and issue-focused style that ‘Point Blank’ is known for. Through a series of pointed questions, Deepak Chaurasia sought Tiwari’s views on key political developments and the evolving strategy of opposition parties ahead of crucial national and state-level political contests.
