Netflix has confirmed that it will be removing the majority of its interactive shows and films from the platform beginning December 1, according to a report in The Verge.
This decision leaves only four interactive titles available, with ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ being one of the few survivors. The streaming giant had pioneered interactive storytelling with titles like ‘Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale’ (2017) and expanded the genre with popular franchises, including ‘Carmen Sandiego’ and ‘Boss Baby’.
While interactive content initially sparked excitement, it has not gained the traction Netflix anticipated. A Netflix spokesperson, Chrissy Kelleher, mentioned to The Verge that the technology behind these experiences had “served its purpose,” and Netflix is now shifting focus to other innovations.
This shift coincides with the departure of former gaming head Mike Verdu, who is now leading generative AI initiatives for games at Netflix.
