Around 65 percent of the streaming audience of ‘Dhurandhar’ had already watched the film in theatres, highlighting a strong overlap between theatrical and OTT consumption for successful films, according to an Ormax Media study.
The findings are part of Ormax Media’s ‘Venn It Happens’ series, which maps intersections between different audience segments in the Indian media landscape. The latest edition, released on March 18, analyses viewership of the 2025 Hindi film ‘Dhurandhar’ across theatres and Netflix.
As per the study, the film recorded a theatrical audience of 35.2 million in India, excluding repeat viewings. Its streaming audience stood at 21.5 million viewers who watched the film for at least 30 minutes on Netflix.

A key insight from the analysis is the high degree of repeat consumption, with a majority of OTT viewers revisiting the film shortly after its theatrical run. This indicates that films with strong audience likeability tend to perform well across both platforms.
The study noted that such overlap explains the strong correlation often seen between box office success and streaming performance, especially for big-ticket films that gain audience approval.
Ormax Media said the ‘Venn It Happens’ series will continue to present similar analyses to decode how audiences engage with content across platforms in India’s evolving media ecosystem.
