The Walt Disney Company has revealed an ambitious Summer 2026 theatrical slate, bringing together some of its biggest franchises and highly anticipated new releases. From the return of beloved animated characters in ‘Toy Story 5’ to a live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’, Disney is banking on a diverse mix of family entertainment, comedy, and action-packed storytelling to attract audiences worldwide.
According to a Disney press release, the studio has already crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office in 2026, becoming the first Hollywood studio to achieve the milestone this year. The strong performance has been driven by a successful lineup that includes Disney and Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, and ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian’ and ‘Grogu’, which marked the franchise’s return to the big screen.
Leading the summer slate is Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’, scheduled to release on June 19. The latest chapter reunites iconic characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the toy gang for a new adventure that explores the clash between traditional toys and modern technology. The story introduces Bonnie’s new tablet device, Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee, which challenges the toys’ place in a child’s life. Directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton, the film also features a new original song by Grammy-winning artist Taylor Swift.
Disney will follow up with its live-action adaptation of Moana on July 10. Starring Catherine Laga‘aia in the title role alongside Dwayne Johnson as Maui, the film reimagines the 2016 animated blockbuster for a new generation. Directed by Thomas Kail, the project includes new music from Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa‘i and Mark Mancina.
Comedy fans can look forward to ‘Super Troopers 3’, arriving in theatres on August 7 through Searchlight Pictures. The film reunites the popular Broken Lizard troupe, including Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske. The latest installment follows the group as they become entangled in a chaotic family drama and a dangerous drug investigation.
Closing out Disney’s summer lineup is ‘The Dog Stars’, a post-apocalyptic thriller from acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott, releasing on August 28 under 20th Century Studios. Based on the bestselling novel by Peter Heller, the film stars Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney. Set in a world devastated by catastrophe, the story follows a young pilot and a survivalist as they embark on a perilous journey after receiving a mysterious radio transmission.
Disney’s summer campaign, titled ‘Disney Blockbuster Summer,’ aims to extend the theatrical experience beyond cinemas through consumer products, experiences, fashion and interactive fan engagement. The company says the initiative is designed to position Disney as the premier destination for summer entertainment across generations.
The momentum is expected to continue beyond summer, with Disney planning a theatrical re-release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on September 25 ahead of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday in December. The studio’s upcoming slate also includes ‘Whalefall’, ‘Wild Horse Nine’, and Walt Disney Animation Studios’ original feature ‘Hexed,’ scheduled for release later in the year.
With established franchises, fresh adaptations and original storytelling, Disney’s Summer 2026 lineup reflects the studio’s strategy of appealing to audiences across genres while strengthening its theatrical presence worldwide.
