Akshay Oberoi is set to star in ‘Love Lottery’, a film that looks to explore the complex and often under-discussed terrain of gender dynamics, while questioning long-held societal assumptions around vulnerability and emotional experience.
According to a UNI report, the film positions itself as a progressive and thought-provoking narrative that raises a difficult but relevant question: can men also be victims? Through a layered storyline, ‘Love Lottery’ aims to examine emotional struggles, societal expectations, and the differing realities shaped by gender, offering a more balanced and nuanced perspective.
Oberoi, known for choosing unconventional roles, said the film stood out for its willingness to address uncomfortable conversations. “What really stood out to me about ‘Love Lottery’ was that it dared to ask questions that often make people uncomfortable. While the conversation around gender is changing today, it often remains one-sided or limited,” he said.
He added that the film does not attempt to justify or prioritise one perspective over another, but instead seeks to broaden the dialogue. “It shows that pain, vulnerability, and emotional struggles aren’t limited to one gender. Men too often find themselves in situations where their voices aren’t heard or their experiences are ignored, and acknowledging this doesn’t diminish anyone else’s struggle, but rather deepens the conversation,” Oberoi noted.
Calling the project both a professional and personal choice, the actor said he has always been drawn to stories that challenge thinking and encourage introspection. “As a human being, I feel we should be a part of stories that start conversations among people, not just give them a definitive conclusion. ‘Love Lottery’ doesn’t try to prove anything, but rather asks a question and gives the audience a chance to think about it,” he said.
With its focus on emotional complexity and social relevance, ‘Love Lottery’ is expected to spark conversations around gender narratives, aiming to engage audiences beyond conventional storytelling and into more reflective territory.
