Senior television journalist and Managing Editor of NDTV India, Akhilesh Sharma, has completed 23 years with the network, marking a rare milestone in India’s fast-changing media landscape. Sharma commemorated the occasion by sharing a photograph from the NDTV newsroom on social media, along with a note expressing gratitude to the organisation and the colleagues he has worked alongside for over two decades.
In his LinkedIn post, Sharma reflected on his long association with NDTV as more than just a professional assignment. He described it as a journey shaped by stories, shared experiences and a team he regards as family. The sentiment struck a chord in an industry known for constant churn, highlighting the consistency and mutual trust that have defined his tenure at the channel.
Referring to the NDTV team as his “family,” Sharma underlined a leadership philosophy rooted in collaboration and collective growth. Colleagues often point to his calm editorial approach and people-first mindset, qualities that have helped shape the channel’s newsroom culture over the years.
As Managing Editor, Sharma plays a central role in steering NDTV India’s editorial direction. Beyond daily news decisions, he is widely seen as a mentor to younger journalists, emphasising accuracy, balance and credibility — principles that have long been associated with NDTV’s editorial identity.
With over three decades in journalism, Sharma brings deep expertise in politics, governance, parliamentary affairs and national issues. Before joining NDTV, he spent nearly three years in London as a Desk Editor with the BBC World Service. His earlier career includes stints as Special Correspondent at Aaj Tak, Correspondent with BBC Hindi TV, Reporter at TVI, and a tenure at Dainik Bhaskar’s Delhi bureau.
Sharma began his journalism journey in 1994 after completing a diploma in journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC). He also holds a journalism diploma from Cardiff University in the UK. As he completes 23 years at NDTV, Sharma’s career stands as a testament to longevity, credibility and quiet leadership in Indian television news.
