Bangla ZEE5 has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming original series ‘Ronkini Bhavan’, a psychological thriller rooted in the suburban and rural landscape of 1990s Bengal.
The series delves into deeply ingrained beliefs, superstition and ritualistic fear, weaving a tense narrative around a family whose lives are governed by their devotion to Ronkini Devi, a local deity believed to control their fate.
Directed by Abhrajit Sen in his second web-series outing, ‘Ronkini Bhavan’ is led by Shyamoupti Mudly as Juthika and Gourab Roy Chowdhury as Adityanath, both marking their OTT debuts. The story follows a young bride who enters an isolated household where death is a recurring presence and faith is dictated by fear.
As she settles into the family, she is forced to confront unsettling truths and generational secrets that blur the line between devotion and darkness. Actor Shruti Das is associated with the project as Creative Producer.
The ensemble cast also includes Bidipta Chakraborty as Padmavati, Avery Singha Roy as Ballari, Siddharta Ghosh as Shibnath, Aniruddha Gupta as Rudranath and Ishani Sengupta as Kamalini, with Suhotra Mukhopadhyay making a cameo appearance as Manas Mahato.
Speaking about the series, Rusa Banerjee, Business Head, ZEE5 Bangla, said Ronkini Bhavan adds a compelling chapter to the platform’s commitment to promoting local storytelling. She noted that the series is deeply embedded in the soil and spirit of Bengal, with characters and customs that feel authentic and reflective of home-grown traditions. According to her, this culturally rooted narrative is emblematic of the kind of Bengali storytelling Bangla ZEE5 aims to champion.
Director Abhrajit Sen described ‘Ronkini Bhavan’ as a story where terror emerges not from the supernatural, but from the human mind, age-old traditions and inherited guilt. He said the series explores how rituals and piety within the secluded Lahiri family have concealed a mysterious and troubling past, serving as a reminder that the darkest evils often hide behind the façade of devotion.
Set against the evocative backdrop of small-town Bengal in the 1990s, the trailer hints at a narrative driven by psychological tension, emotional conflict and cultural belief systems, setting the tone for a slow-burning thriller that questions faith, fear and legacy.
