The upcoming two-part epic film ‘Ramayana’, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, is being planned as a major global cinematic project.
According to The Economics Times report today, the film has a reported combined budget of around Rs 4,000 crore for both parts, making it one of the most expensive Indian film projects. The makers are looking beyond the Indian diaspora and want the film to connect with audiences across different countries.
The film is based on the Indian epic ‘Ramayana’ and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, while Yash portrays Ravana.
The makers are betting on the universal appeal of the story, along with large-scale production, advanced visual effects and international marketing, to attract viewers who may not be familiar with Indian mythology.
The project is also being presented as a test of whether an Indian mythological story can become a global entertainment franchise. The team hopes that the film’s scale and storytelling will help it reach audiences beyond traditional overseas Indian markets.
