Star Sports, an Indian sports powerhouse, has designated Bollywood superstar and sports fan Ranveer Singh as its brand ambassador.
Ranveer was recently named India’s most valuable celebrity for 2022 in a report by corporate investigation and risk consulting firm Kroll, and this statement by Star Sports makes the pop culture icon India’s first actor to be affiliated with the country’s most powerful sports television network.
This announcement represents the growing synergy between sports and entertainment in India, with IPL 2023 being the global annual tentpole of cricketing action that gets extremely strong television viewership. Simply stated, it appears that sports fandom is on steroids.
As sutradhaar for the upcoming Incredible League season, Ranveer will be involved in creating a stream of immersive and entertaining content to bring riveting tales from the IPL’s past, present, and future to life. Ranveer’s journey as the sutradhaar of the biggest sports magnet starts with the opening weekend, which runs from Friday, March 31 to Sunday, April 2.
Ranveer’s vast and impressive knowledge and understanding of sports, combined with his enormous popularity as one of the entertainment industry’s most popular actors, make him an ideal option to spread the power of sports across the nation.
Ranveer Singh’s collaboration with Star Sports is a major step forward for the brand because it brings together two industry leaders. This partnership will allow Star Sports to capitalize on Singh’s enormous fame and deep passion for sports to connect with diverse audience cohorts that may not yet have established the kind of deep relationship with sports that the majority of Indians do. This is a significant move forward in Star Sports’ stated mission of transforming India into a sporting country by fostering fandom and passion for sports.
Sanjog Gupta, Head – of Sports, at Disney Star, said, “We believe that sports in India is on the move but needs a continuous injection of fandom to turn into a full-fledged movement. In Ranveer Singh, we see a die-hard sports fan, a committed storyteller, and an entertainer par excellence, who is keen to use his popularity to grow sports.
“Working with him, we want to reach new audiences, who still haven’t discovered their passion for the sport. This also includes millions of viewers, who haven’t been watching Cricket or don’t watch Cricket regularly. We want to use, in conjunction, the power of storytelling and Ranveer’s popularity, to create a compelling invitation for them,” Gupta added.
