Scarlett Johansson is set to executive produce a television series adaptation of ‘The Nanny Diaries’ for Netflix, marking her return to a story she previously headlined on the big screen.
The development signals Netflix’s continued push to revisit popular literary properties for long-form storytelling, PTI reported.
The upcoming series is based on the bestselling book by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, which was earlier adapted into a 2007 film starring Johansson. This time, however, the narrative will be reimagined in a series format, allowing for a more expansive exploration of its characters and themes.
Johansson will executive produce the project under her production banner These Pictures, alongside Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn. The involvement of Johansson, who is closely associated with the original film adaptation, adds continuity and familiarity to the project.
The series will be written and co-showrun by Amy Chozick and Jenny Bicks, both of whom bring experience in character-driven storytelling. Their role will be central in shaping the tone and narrative arc of the adaptation.
Originally centred around a young nanny navigating the complexities of working for a wealthy Manhattan family, ‘The Nanny Diaries’ blends humour with social commentary. The shift to a series format is expected to delve deeper into its exploration of class dynamics, relationships, and personal identity.
Further details regarding casting and release timelines are yet to be announced.
