The second leg of the News18 Namma Run 2026 witnessed an enthusiastic response in Mysuru, with more than 1,600 participants coming together to promote fitness and spread the message of a drug-free India. The event followed the successful debut edition in Salem last month, where over 1,400 runners had participated.
According to a News18 press release, the Mysuru edition was held on June 28 and transformed the City of Palaces into a vibrant hub of fitness, community engagement and social awareness. The run formed part of a larger 10-city circuit designed to encourage healthier lifestyles while strengthening the nationwide campaign against drug abuse.
The event began at 5.30 am in front of the iconic Mysore Palace and followed a route that showcased some of the city’s prominent landmarks, including Kote Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Jayarama Gate, Chamaraja Circle, Agrahara and Chamrajpura. The heritage-rich route added a distinctive local flavour to the fitness initiative.
Unlike traditional running events that focus primarily on competitive athletes, News18 Namma Run was designed as an inclusive community movement. Alongside the competitive 5K and 10K timed races, which featured a prize pool of Rs.1 lakh, the event also included a 3K family walkathon, dedicated 1K and 2K races for children, and a freestyle costume run. The format enabled participants across age groups and fitness levels to be part of the experience.
The Mysuru run was graced by Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who attended as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of promoting physical fitness and community well-being. The event also received support from senior police officials, reinforcing its anti-drug awareness message. Among those present were IPS officer Boralingaiah, Inspector General of Police, Southern Range; Mallikarjun Baladandi, Superintendent of Police, Mysuru; and Sundar Raj, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mysuru.
Organisers said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating a “Drug-Free India” while encouraging citizens to embrace healthier lifestyles under the spirit of the Fit India movement. By combining sports, community participation and social awareness, the event sought to create meaningful engagement beyond a conventional road race.
The Mysuru edition also attracted support from a wide range of corporate partners. The event was powered by Sree Kumaran Jewellers and Gold Winner, while Reliance Industries joined as co-powered partner. Several brands across sectors including healthcare, education, technology, sports, FMCG and infrastructure participated in the initiative, reflecting the growing interest among businesses in community-led fitness programmes.
With successful editions now completed in Salem and Mysuru, News18 Namma Run continues to build momentum as it moves to the remaining cities on its nationwide circuit. Organisers aim to use the platform not only to promote fitness but also to foster stronger community participation in social causes, particularly the campaign against drug abuse.
