Nagaland-set film ‘Angh’, directed by Theja Rio, has won the Platform Award at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

According to a PTI report from New Delhi today, ‘Angh’ is Rio’s feature directorial debut and was the only Indian film selected for this year’s TIFF Platform Competition. The Platform section features films by directors with a distinctive approach to filmmaking.

Set in Nagaland in the 1960s, the film follows a Konyak village chief and his son as they deal with changes brought by the arrival of an American missionary. The story explores the community’s traditions and changing way of life.

‘Angh’ received a cash prize of CAD 20,000 along with the Platform Award. The film also had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The film’s win marks an achievement for Naga cinema and brings a story from Nagaland to an international film festival audience.
