Malaysia is stepping up efforts to attract more Indian film productions, with over 100 Indian films already shot in the country across multiple language industries, according to the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board. The initiative reflects the country’s push to position itself as a preferred global filming destination by offering additional incentives and simplifying shooting approvals.
According to a PTI report, MTPB chairman Datuk Manoharan Periasamy said Malaysia is consistently working to draw more Indian filmmakers by enhancing benefits and easing processes related to film production in the country. He noted that several Indian film industries already use Malaysia as a shooting location, and the government is committed to further strengthening this collaboration.
Periasamy highlighted that filmmakers who incorporate Malaysian cultural or local elements into their projects are eligible for an additional five percent rebate, over and above existing incentives offered to production teams. The move is aimed at encouraging deeper cultural integration while boosting the country’s visibility in international cinema.
He added that Malaysia continues to streamline its shooting approval procedures to make the process more efficient and filmmaker-friendly. The country’s diverse landscapes, modern infrastructure and supportive policies have made it an attractive location for large-scale productions from India.
With increasing participation from Indian filmmakers, Malaysia is seeking to expand its role in global film production while promoting tourism and cultural exchange through cinema.
