Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for her return to the big screen with ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, which is now officially slated to release in theatres on June 12. The announcement, made by the makers on Wednesday, has added to the anticipation around the film, which promises to bring a lesser-known yet deeply moving story to audiences.
According to a IANS report, the film is set against the backdrop of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and shifts focus away from conventional narratives of heroism. Instead, it highlights the extraordinary courage shown by hospital staff—nurses, ward boys, cleaners, lift operators, security personnel, and administrative workers—who stood firm and continued their duties amid the chaos of armed violence.
Speaking about the project, Kangana Ranaut reflected on the theme of quiet resilience. She noted that while grand acts of bravery often take centre stage, real courage is often understated and rooted in everyday responsibility. Calling the film a tribute to “untold stories of courage, sacrifice, humanity, and unity,” she said it captures a form of desh bhakti where duty transforms into action. She also expressed pride in being part of a narrative that honours those who helped hold the city together during one of its most difficult moments.
Director Manoj Tapadia described the film as a tense and emotional thriller, but emphasised that its core lies beyond the depiction of terror. According to him, the story is about the triumph of courage over fear and compassion over chaos. He highlighted that the film brings forward the experiences of ordinary individuals, particularly women, who were forced to make life-and-death decisions under extreme circumstances. For him, the film serves as a tribute to unsung heroes whose bravery often goes unnoticed.
Presented by Jayantilal Gada under Pen Studios, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Girija Oak, Smita Tambe, Amrutha Namdev, Esha Dey, Priya Berde, Asha Shelar, Suhita Thatte, Rasika Aghase, Aditya Mishra, and Zahid Khan in key roles.
With its focus on human endurance and untold stories from a defining moment in India’s recent history, ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’ aims to offer a perspective that is both intimate and impactful when it arrives in cinemas this June.
