Instagram, the popular photo-sharing app owned by Meta, is currently experimenting with a new feature called ‘Peek’ in a bid to compete with rivals Snapchat and BeReal.
The feature, which is in its early testing phase and not yet accessible to the public, will enable users to share unedited photos that disappear after being viewed once, The Economic Times reported.
Screenshots shared by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi reveal that Peek will require users to capture photos in the moment using the camera, without the option to upload images from their gallery or apply filters and edits. This approach mirrors BeReal’s emphasis on sharing authentic, unfiltered content.
While Instagram Stories typically last for 24 hours, Peek photos are expected to be more fleeting, disappearing after a single view
