Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows creators to link one reel to another, making it easier for audiences to follow episodic or themed content. With this update, creators can now build “Reels series,” connecting their videos around a common topic or storyline while encouraging viewers to continue watching.
According to a Business Standard report, the feature comes at a time when creators are increasingly sharing content in an episodic format, with many such series gaining traction on the platform. Instagram says the new option is designed to give creators more control in organising their reels, while also offering audiences a seamless way to explore related content.
The platform has confirmed that both newly uploaded and existing reels can be linked. However, subscriber-only reels and those shared with close friends cannot be included. For all other types of content, creators can add links and titles of up to 15 characters, which appear only on the reel they are linked to. If no title is added, the feature automatically defaults to “Linked reel.”
To use the option, creators can select the “Link a reel” button while uploading new content, choose the reel they want to connect, add a title if desired, and then share it. The same can also be done for reels that are already posted by selecting “Add linked reel” or “Edit linked reel.” Instagram further clarified that creators can edit, change, or remove links at any time. Once a reel is unlinked, it no longer appears as part of the original series.
The new feature aims to boost engagement by helping creators package their content into longer narratives and giving viewers a reason to stay connected. With reels being the most popular content format on Instagram, the move is expected to strengthen the platform’s positioning against rivals in the short-video space.
