Filmmaker Greta Gerwig’s much-anticipated adaptation of ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ has been pushed to February 12, 2027, delaying its earlier planned 2026 release window.
According to a PTI report, the film will first arrive in theatres before making its way to Netflix on April 2, 2027, continuing the platform’s strategy of combining theatrical runs with digital premieres for large-scale projects.
The film marks a fresh start for ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ franchise, serving as a reboot and also the first chronological story in the series. ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ explores the origins of Narnia, offering audiences a deeper look into the creation of the magical world and its mythology.
The project brings together a notable cast, including Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig and Emma Mackey in key roles. Veteran actor Meryl Streep is also expected to lend her voice to Aslan, the iconic Great Lion, adding further weight to the film’s ensemble.
With Gerwig at the helm, the film has already generated strong buzz, given her distinct storytelling style and previous successes. The extended timeline is expected to allow the makers to further refine the scale and visual detailing required for bringing the beloved fantasy universe to life on the big screen before its global streaming debut.
