Even as India’s public broadcaster Doordarshan readies for new challenges and opportunities in a digital age and changing geo-political landscape, it’s anyway time to celebrate and highlight the journey till now as the pubcaster marks its 65th anniversary that falls on September 15.
To commemorate this milestone, according to an official statement by DD parent Prasar Bharati, DD National channel will telecast a special programme ‘Dil Se Doordarshan,DD@65’, a gala event hosted by renowned Master Jaiveer Bansal and Anil Singh (ventriloquist), featuring performances by eminent artists.
The artists who will feature include Pramod Kumar, magician and mentalist, and also a Guinness Book of Records holder and Manisha Swarnkar, an accomplished sand artist, who is the first woman sand artist and has been performing for the last 13 years.
Since its inception on September 15, 1959, Doordarshan has been a cornerstone of Indian media fostering unity, culture, and education while serving as the voice of the nation.
From its humble beginnings with an experimental broadcast in Delhi, Doordarshan has grown to become one of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world. Over the decades, it has witnessed monumental transformations in technology and audience engagement, while steadfastly maintaining its commitment to public service broadcasting.
From the days of black and white television to the present era of digital and satellite broadcasting, Doordarshan has continuously evolved to cater to the changing tastes and preferences of its diverse audience. From the era of black and white transmission to 35 channels across its network giving every region the flair of its own language through its six national channels, 28 regional channels and one International channel, Doordarshan continues its journey with commitment of pioneering public service broadcasting.
It has been the platform for some of the most iconic television shows that have defined generations of Indians. From the mythological epics ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharat’ to the beloved ‘Chitrahaar,’ ‘Surabhi’, ‘Hum Log’, ‘Buniyad’ and many more, DD’s programming has reflected not only the diversity but also provided a space for cultural exchange, brought rural and urban India closer together, and created awareness about vital social issues through various educational and informative programmes.
The star performer for the ‘Dil Se Doordarshan, DD@65’ show will be Padma Shri awardee and singer Kailash Kher. The voiceover for the Doordarshan showreel has been done by the talented and much feted actor Manoj Bajpayee.
The show will be aired at 10 am and the repeat telecast will be at 8 pm on Sunday.
