Birla Studios has partnered with Vodafone Idea Limited to launch ‘Reel Se Real Star’, a mobile-first acting talent discovery platform aimed at opening up opportunities in India’s entertainment industry.
According to a Birla Studios press release, the initiative is positioned as a first-of-its-kind effort to democratise talent discovery by removing traditional barriers such as geography, access, and industry connections. The platform is designed to allow anyone with a smartphone to participate, reflecting a broader push to make entry into cinema more inclusive.
Built on the idea that talent can emerge from anywhere, ‘Reel Se Real Star’ enables aspiring actors across the country to upload auditions through a fully digital, app and web-based journey. By eliminating the need for referrals or physical auditions, the platform aims to create a level playing field for participants from both metro cities and remote regions.
Speaking on the initiative, Ananya Birla said that talent often does not get the opportunity it deserves, and the platform is an attempt to bridge that gap. She highlighted that with the reach of digital infrastructure and Vodafone Idea’s national footprint, there is now an opportunity to create access at scale and rethink how industries open their doors to new entrants.
Abhijit Kishore added that connectivity becomes meaningful when it creates opportunity, noting that the platform effectively brings the audition room into the hands of millions of users across the country. With a digital reach of over 200 million users, the initiative aims to ensure that talent is not limited by geography.
Beyond access, the platform also integrates mentorship and evaluation by established directors and creative professionals, adding a layer of credibility and structured guidance to the process. This combination of mass participation and expert oversight is expected to strengthen the quality of talent emerging from the initiative.
Participants selected through the platform will receive a significant breakthrough opportunity, including a role in a feature film alongside an established director. The program is expected to go live on the Vi app in the coming months, with early registrations currently open on the companies’ websites.
With its focus on accessibility, scale, and structured discovery, ‘Reel Se Real Star’ signals a shift in how talent pipelines in the entertainment industry could evolve in the digital-first era.
