Bharti Airtel has entered into a significant multi-year agreement with Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson to enhance its pan-India network infrastructure, strengthening its long-standing partnership and pushing forward its technology roadmap across 4G and 5G domains.
According to a report by IANS, this renewed collaboration is aimed at further expanding Airtel’s pan-India network coverage while boosting service quality and network efficiency through Ericsson’s cutting-edge radio and transport solutions. The agreement also reinforces Airtel’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to meet India’s growing digital needs and support the ongoing rollout of 5G.
Under the new deal, Ericsson will provide its 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies as well as continue supporting Airtel’s existing 4G network. The telecom major will deploy Ericsson’s radio system products and solutions including Massive MIMO and Ericsson’s MINI-LINK microwave solutions, enabling high-capacity backhaul connections essential for seamless data transmission.
Commenting on the agreement, Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO of Bharti Airtel, said the partnership with Ericsson has been instrumental in helping Airtel deliver the best network experience to its customers over the years. He added that as data consumption and digital adoption continue to surge across India, this renewed collaboration will help the company build a more resilient and high-performing network to meet future demands.
Meanwhile, Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Airtel’s vision for a digitally connected India. He highlighted that Ericsson’s energy-efficient, AI-powered solutions would play a key role in enhancing Airtel’s network performance and user experience.
