Psychological thriller ‘Accused’, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta, is set to premiere on Netflix on February 27. Directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, the film places women at the centre of a tense and morally complex narrative, exploring themes of power, belief and perception.
According to an IANS report, the makers describe ‘Accused’ as a story that resists easy answers and refuses to simplify human behaviour or moral conflict. Sharing details about the film, the team said the narrative is designed to stay with the viewer, as it navigates shifting truths and emotional uncertainty. They added that with Konkona and Pratibha leading the story, the film examines a relationship tested not just by an accusation, but by doubt itself, told with restraint, empathy and courage.
Produced by Dharma Productions, ‘Accused’ follows the life of a celebrated doctor based in London, whose seemingly controlled and successful world begins to unravel after she is accused of sexual misconduct. As scrutiny grows and public opinion hardens, the film explores how quickly perception can overpower facts, placing strain on personal relationships and forcing difficult questions around truth and belief. By centring the story on a woman as the accused, the film deliberately asks viewers to sit with discomfort and ambiguity, unfolding as one woman’s word against another.
Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director, Original Films, Netflix India, described ‘Accused’ as a meaningful and emotionally resonant film that examines the personal consequences of an accusation. She said Anubhuti Kashyap’s sensitive and restrained direction adds depth to a powerful subject, while the performances by Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta bring a layered, character-driven quality that aligns with the kind of storytelling Netflix supports.
Konkona Sen Sharma, who began her career as a child artist in Indira in 1983, earned widespread acclaim with ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ in 2002, winning the National Film Award for Best Actress. She later established herself in Hindi cinema with films such as ‘Page 3’. Pratibha Rannta made her acting debut on television with ‘Qurbaan Hua’ and later transitioned to films, gaining attention for her leading role in ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
Accused will stream exclusively on Netflix from February 27, promising a thought-provoking watch that challenges judgement and explores the fragile line between truth and perception.
