Netflix and FIFA will launch ‘FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition’ on June 11, giving Netflix subscribers access to a football simulation game timed with the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and available exclusively through Netflix Games.
The companies in a joint statement yesterday said the title will allow fans to play as any of the tournament’s 48 teams, compete in 16 real-world stadiums and control all 1,248 players participating in the competition.
The game, announced in a June 4 statement by Netflix, is included with a Netflix membership and is designed as a streamlined football simulation experience that can be played using a mobile phone as a controller. Up to four players can participate, with gameplay displayed on television screens through Netflix Games.
Netflix said the title is intended to let fans experience the tournament alongside the real-world competition, which begins on June 11. Players will be able to launch the game on their televisions, scan a QR code with their phones and begin playing within seconds.
Describing the project as a new direction for FIFA football games, Netflix said the Launch Edition focuses on accessibility and social play. “It’s fast, fluid and fun with friends (up to four players) — no matter how familiar you are with video games or football,” the company said.
The platform added that the game represents its “Kickoff” and will evolve over time.
The statement said a limited test in Brazil begins immediately, while games on TV are currently available in 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Australia and Brazil, with additional markets to be added over time.
In previously announced remarks accompanying the FIFA-Netflix partnership, Alain Tascan, President of Games at Netflix, said the World Cup would be “the cultural event of 2026” and that fans would be able to bring the tournament into their homes.
“We want to bring football back to its roots with something everyone can play with just the touch of a button,” he added.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the collaboration as “a key milestone” in FIFA’s efforts to innovate in football gaming.
“Our reimagined game truly marks the beginning of a new era of digital football,” Infantino said, adding that making the title available at no additional cost to Netflix members represented “a great historic step for FIFA.”
