ZEE5 has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming original non-fiction show ‘Maa Hai Na’, a light-hearted yet emotional cooking-based reality series that celebrates the unique bond between mothers and their children. Hosted by actor and fitness enthusiast Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the show promises a mix of humour, nostalgia, family drama, and culinary chaos when it premieres on June 12.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the warmth and unpredictability of Indian households, where kitchens often become the centre of emotional conversations, arguments, learning, and love. The show brings together six Gen Z participants and their mothers in a competition that goes far beyond cooking, exploring relationships, communication gaps, and shared memories through food and everyday moments.
‘Maa Hai Na’ is designed as a 10-episode comedy cooking show where contestants attempt to learn cooking alongside their mothers. What starts as a kitchen challenge gradually transforms into a journey of reconnecting with family values, traditions, and emotional comfort. The show highlights the contrast between Gen Z’s fast-paced lifestyle and a mother’s old-school wisdom, creating moments filled with laughter, pressure, and heartfelt emotions.
The series features a diverse lineup of celebrity contestants, digital creators, and television personalities paired with their mothers. Participants include reality TV personality Gullu, also known as Kushal Tanwar, along with Tanya Mittal, Bhagyashree Sharma, Urvashi Dholakia, Sunita Ahuja, Tina Ahuja and Manisha Rani among others.
Adding to the entertainment quotient are comedians and entertainers Ali, Chandan, and Gaurav Kapoor, who will introduce humour and unexpected twists throughout the competition. Gaurav Kapoor will also take on the role of the ‘Seeti’, bringing surprise challenges and adding pressure to the contestants as the competition intensifies.
Speaking about the show, Shilpa Shetty Kundra said the concept immediately reminded her of the emotional and chaotic atmosphere that exists in every Indian kitchen. According to her, the show is not just about cooking but about the little moments between a mother and child that are often overlooked. She added that while the format is packed with humour and entertainment, it also delivers deeply emotional moments that reflect the reality of Indian families.
The actor further shared that the show beautifully captures the madness and magic of the mother-child relationship, adding that the emotional depth of the participants’ journeys surprised her during filming. “Maa hai na… toh sab possible hai,” she said, summing up the spirit of the show.
Blending family emotions with entertainment and culinary challenges, ‘Maa Hai Na’ aims to offer viewers a relatable and heartwarming reality experience when it begins streaming on Hindi ZEE5 from June 12.
