Prime Video on Monday announced February 13 as the worldwide premiere date of its upcoming Hindi original series ‘Bandwaale’, a musical dramedy that brings together poetry, friendship and music against the backdrop of a small town.
The series will stream exclusively on the platform across India and in over 240 countries and territories, the Prime Video said in a press release.
Created and written by Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire, ‘Bandwaale’ is directed by Akshat Verma and Ankur Tewari and produced by OML Entertainment. Set in Ratlam, the story follows Mariam, a young poetess who begins anonymously sharing her poetry online while navigating her search for independence and identity. Her verses, penned by Kausar Munir, quietly yet powerfully articulate emotions she struggles to express aloud, becoming a window into her inner world.
Mariam’s journey unfolds alongside her bandmates and closest friends, Robo and DJ Psycho, who bring humour, warmth and companionship into her life. While Mariam finds her voice through poetry, the trio is held together by music, shared creativity and an unshakeable belief in possibility. At its heart, ‘Bandwaale’ explores how friendships and artistic expression can shape confidence and self-discovery.
Music plays a central role in the narrative, with original compositions by Yashraj Mukhate, marking his first venture into composing for a long-format series. The musical landscape mirrors the emotional journeys of the characters, adding depth and texture to the storytelling. With both creators being musicians themselves, the series carries a strong musical sensibility that enhances its layered, immersive tone.
The ensemble cast is led by Zahan Kapoor, Shalini Pandey and Swanand Kirkire, with Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupama Kumar and Sanjana Dipu appearing in pivotal roles. The makers describe the series as a grounded, warm comedy drama rooted in familiar realities, yet universal in emotion.
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said the platform remains focused on authentic stories with distinctive voices. He described ‘Bandwaale’ as a heartfelt blend of music, humour and emotion, adding that the collaboration with OML Entertainment reflects Prime Video’s commitment to creator-first storytelling with global reach.
OML Entertainment CEO Tusharr Kumar said the series aligns with the company’s preference for honest, lived-in narratives. He noted that ‘Bandwaale’ is ultimately about discovering one’s identity and questioning expectations imposed by others, and expressed confidence that the story would resonate with audiences worldwide.
Co-creator Swanand Kirkire said the series grew out of everyday observations about hesitation, expression and the quiet courage it takes to be oneself, while Ankur Tewari added that the intent was to stay true to Mariam’s world and emotional journey. ‘Bandwaale’ premieres on Prime Video on February 13.
