November 2025 turned out to be a relatively subdued month for the Indian box office, with domestic gross collections standing at Rs. 587 crore, according to the latest India Box Office Report by Ormax Media.
The figure makes November the second lowest-grossing month of the year so far, marginally ahead of March 2025, which recorded Rs. 580 crore in collections. The slowdown followed October’s strong performance and included projected revenues from films that were still running in theatres at the time of assessment.
The findings, published by Ormax Media and credited to its Insights Desk, underline that despite the soft showing in November, the overall theatrical business in 2025 remains firmly on track to script history. The cumulative India box office for films released between January and November 2025 has reached Rs. 11,657 crore, marking an 18 per cent increase over the same period in 2024.

Two Hindi films dominated November’s collections. ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ emerged as the top grosser of the month with Rs. 143 crore, and was the only release to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark. It was followed by ‘De De Pyaar De 2’, which collected Rs. 85 crore. Together, the two films contributed close to 40 per cent of the month’s total box office. Beyond these titles, no other November release managed to even touch the Rs. 30 crore milestone, reflecting the overall lack of big-ticket performers during the period.
Ormax Media noted that November’s muted numbers came after the year’s strongest month in October, making the contrast particularly stark. However, the outlook for the year remains robust. With major December releases such as ‘Dhurandhar’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ lined up, 2025 is expected to comfortably surpass the current all-time record held by 2023, which closed at Rs. 12,226 crore at the Indian box office.

Looking at the broader picture, Hindi cinema continues to maintain a strong presence in 2025. Five Hindi films feature among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year so far. The list also includes two Telugu films, and one each from Kannada and Tamil cinema, along with the multi-lingual animated feature ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’. Notably, no international film has yet entered the top 10, though this is expected to change with the December release of ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.
In terms of language-wise contribution, Hindi films have held steady with a 39 per cent share of the total box office. Telugu and Tamil films follow with shares of 19 per cent and 15 per cent respectively. Ormax Media clarified that for films released in multiple languages, collections are attributed to their respective language versions, while all international titles are grouped under the ‘International’ category.

The report also highlights a shift in audience preferences. The top films of 2025 span a wider mix of genres, including action, romance, comedy and mythology, compared to 2024, which was heavily driven by action and horror-comedy titles.
Ormax Media uses gross box office as a uniform metric across industries, accounting for differing reporting conventions such as gross, nett or distributor share. For films still running at the time of publication, collections are estimated based on prevailing trends and may be revised in subsequent reports.

Despite November’s underperformance, the data reinforces confidence in the theatrical market’s momentum, with 2025 poised to become the highest-grossing year ever for Indian cinemas.
