Prime Video on Tuesday released the first-look images of ‘Scarpetta’, the upcoming forensic crime thriller based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling Kay Scarpetta novels.
The series, developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff, marks the long-awaited screen debut of one of crime fiction’s most enduring characters.
The platform confirmed that the show will premiere on March 11, 2026, streaming exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
According to a Prime Video press release, the series brings Cornwell’s globally popular books—having sold over 120 million copies since 1990 to life through a tense, character-driven narrative led by Nicole Kidman.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television in association with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures and P&S Projects, the show is positioned as a major new entry in the crime thriller genre.
‘Scarpetta’ stars Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a relentless medical examiner whose precision and instincts make her a formidable presence in the pursuit of justice.
The story follows her as she works to expose a serial killer while confronting the possibility that a defining case from nearly three decades ago may return to haunt her. Set within the world of modern forensic science, the series goes beyond the procedural elements to delve into the emotional and psychological cost of investigating violent crime.
Created by Emmy-nominated writer, executive producer and showrunner Liz Sarnoff (‘Barry’, ‘Lost’), the series unfolds across two timelines—tracking Scarpetta’s early years as a Chief Medical Examiner in the late 1990s and her return to her hometown in the present day. As she resumes her old position and begins investigating a brutal murder, she must also navigate complex personal relationships, including the strained bond with her sister Dorothy Farinelli, played by Jamie Lee Curtis. The narrative also digs into unresolved professional grudges and long-buried secrets that threaten to upend Scarpetta’s life.
The show features an ensemble cast led by Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis. Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale stars as Detective Pete Marino, while Emmy nominee Simon Baker appears as FBI profiler Benton Wesley. Ariana DeBose plays Lucy Watson, Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece. The dual-timeline storytelling is supported by Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale and Hunter Parrish, who portray the younger versions of the lead characters.
‘Scarpetta’ is executive produced by Nicole Kidman and Per Saari (Blossom Films), Jamie Lee Curtis (Comet Pictures), Patricia Cornwell (P&S Projects), and Liz Sarnoff (Sarnoff TV), alongside Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie and Chris McCumber for Blumhouse Television. Director David Gordon Green helms five episodes and also serves as executive producer with Amy Sayres.
With its pedigree of bestselling source material, a powerhouse creative team and an award-winning cast, ‘Scarpetta’ looks set to emerge as one of Prime Video’s most anticipated global releases of 2026.
