Japanese broadcaster TV Asahi hosted the India premiere of its latest animated feature, ‘Shin chan: The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers in India’, at the vibrant cultural event Mela! Mela! Anime Japan!! 2025 in New Delhi.
The premiere featured an interactive stage programme that brought together fans, creators, and cultural dignitaries to celebrate Japanese animation and its growing connection with Indian audiences.
According to an ANI report, the event was organised in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and PVR INOX. Opening the programme, Shinya Kurosawa, President of the Japan Foundation, and Aamer Bijli of PVR INOX welcomed attendees, highlighting the importance of cross-cultural engagement. H.E. Keiichi Ono, Ambassador of Japan to India, addressed the audience in Hindi, English, and Japanese, expressing hopes that ‘Shin chan’ would further strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
Director Masakazu Hashimoto took the stage to share his excitement at premiering in India and provided insights into the film’s themes, which blend humour, dance, and family-oriented storytelling.
The post-screening programme included a behind-the-scenes reel and a lively Q&A session with Hashimoto, during which he discussed inspirations drawn from India’s culture and street life. “This story is for children—and equally for adults and families. We hope it leaves you with a sense of joy and hope,” Hashimoto said.
The audience also participated in an interactive “dance & call” segment, creating an energetic and immersive experience. Fans, including long-time followers of the Shin chan franchise, joined in the fun alongside a costumed Shin chan character dressed in traditional Indian attire.
Fans can expect the film’s official theatrical release on September 26, 2025, offering a full cinematic experience of laughter, music, and family entertainment.
