After the Indian Premier League (IPL), telecom companies are now trying to capitalize on the cricket fever with the upcoming World Cup by launching low-priced data-only packs as well as bundled subscriptions to over-the-top (OTT) platforms, in a bid to push data usage and average revenue per user (ARPU).
Bharti Airtel, on Tuesday, announced a three-month subscription to Disney+ Hotstar, the official streaming partner of the T20 World Cup, for its prepaid, postpaid, international roaming, home broadband, and Airtel Digital TV users.
These offerings start at Rs 499 along with 3GB data for 28 days as well as a free subscription to 20+ OTTs on Airtel Xstream Play. Airtel’s 84-day plan is priced at Rs 839 while an annual subscription costs Rs 3359, The Economic Times reported.
In comparison, Reliance Jio continues to run its ‘Cricket Plan’ priced at Rs 749 for 90 days as well as data-only plans costing Rs 222 and Rs 49.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) also launched strategic plans for sports lovers offering bundled subscriptions to Disney+ Hotstar and Sony LIV. “This season, Vi is making it easier for its users to find and watch sports content. All the sporting action from ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, UEFA Euro 2024, and Copa America – will be available in one place, with a single subscription to Vi Movies & TV App,” it said in a statement.
Vi’s 90-day plans are priced at Rs 903, versus Rs 369 for 30 days and Rs 82 for 28-day plans.
