Twitter is said to be developing a new feature for its crowd-sourced fact-checking program “Community Notes” that will debunk fake images.
Nima Owji, an app researcher, wrote on Wednesday, “#Twitter is working on Community Notes for media in tweets! When you add a comment to an image, it shows in all tweets that include that image.”
“I’d like to see something like this for hashtags and links, @lucasnantonio,” Owji added.
According to IANS, the company revealed earlier this month that it has extended its crowd-sourced fact-checking program to Brazil, making it the first country where users can “write and rate notes predominantly in a different primary language.”
The goal of community notes is to enable users to add more context to tweets by using links and reports. It has frequently been used to refute or correct claims made infamous tweets.
The virtual fact-checking program was launched by Twitter in the United States last year under the name “Birdwatch,” but after Elon Musk took over as CEO, he renamed it “Community Notes.”
