ZEE5 Tamil is set to strengthen its regional content slate with the digital premiere of ‘Sirai’, a crime courtroom drama starring Vikram Prabhu and debutant L.K. Akshay Kumar. The film will begin streaming on the platform from January 23, 2026, adding to ZEE5 Tamil’s growing line-up of original series and films for audiences across the region.
As per an IANS report, the premiere comes close on the heels of ZEE5 Tamil’s recent originals and the launch of its Pongal brand film featuring Jiiva and Andrea Jeremiah. With ‘Sirai’, the platform continues its focus on content-driven storytelling, bringing a socially relevant narrative that blends emotion, moral dilemmas and intense courtroom drama to its viewers.
Directed by debutant Suresh Rajakumari, ‘Sirai’ is based on a screenplay co-written with Tamizh, who also developed the story. The film is produced by S.S. Lalit Kumar under the Seven Screen Studio banner and features an ensemble cast including Vikram Prabhu, L.K. Akshay Kumar, Anishma Anilkumar and Anantha Thambirajah in pivotal roles. Notably, the film marks Akshay Kumar’s acting debut and also reunites Vikram Prabhu with Tamizh following their earlier collaboration on Tamizh’s directorial debut.
At its core, ‘Sirai’ explores the journey of a principled police officer tasked with a high-stakes escort mission. As the narrative unfolds, the film examines the institutional pressures faced by law enforcement, while weaving in emotional undercurrents and ethical conflicts that play out within the courtroom. The story aims to strike a balance between gripping drama and deeper questions about duty, justice and the system itself.
Speaking about the film, Vikram Prabhu described ‘Sirai’ as one of the most emotionally intense projects he has worked on. He said his character is driven by a strong sense of duty but is constantly at odds with the system he serves. The actor added that the film’s release on ZEE5 Tamil will allow it to reach a much wider audience across regions, something he believes the story truly deserves.
L.K. Akshay Kumar, who makes his acting debut with the film, said ‘Sirai’ presented him with a challenging role that exists in moral grey zones rather than clear notions of right and wrong. He shared that being part of a content-driven film for his first project has been a special experience, and streaming on ZEE5 Tamil makes the journey even more meaningful.
With ‘Sirai’, ZEE5 Tamil continues to position itself as a key destination for compelling regional stories, combining strong performances with narratives that resonate beyond the screen.
