YouTube is set to introduce a range of budget-friendly television packages in the United States, offering smaller and more targeted channel bundles aimed at viewers seeking affordable alternatives to traditional cable subscriptions.
According to a Bloomberg report, the platform is preparing to roll out so-called “skinny bundles”, including a dedicated sports package priced at $65 per month. The move reflects a broader shift in the media industry as streaming platforms attempt to cater to audiences who prefer paying only for the content they actually watch.
The sports-focused tier is expected to be about 22 per cent cheaper than the standard $83 monthly YouTube TV subscription, which includes a comprehensive range of channels. Designed primarily for sports enthusiasts, the package will combine major broadcast networks with select sports content that was previously limited to niche streaming services.
The company is also reportedly planning more than 10 themed bundles tailored to different viewing preferences. These include packages centred on live sports, breaking news, and entertainment programming such as drama and comedy, offering consumers greater flexibility in selecting content.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan highlighted the initiative on social media, stating that the new structure aims to provide viewers with greater “choice and control” over their viewing experience.
